Escape Your Mid-Winter Slump

Christmas, New Year’s, and Valentine’s Day have come and gone once again. Here we are, late February, and spring is just out of reach. We’ve shown-off all of our new winter wardrobe pieces, taken our snowy vacations, and we are ready for sandals and fresh flowers in our gardens once again. Here’s the bad news: for most of us, spring will not begin for at least another month. Instead of giving in and forgetting our personal style, and sanity, here are a few ways to escape that mid-winter slump.

•Throw a dinner party for your closest friends. Although you cannot dawn the garden decorations or the barbeque outside, you can create a wonderful atmosphere inside the home. Keep it light an airy by using candles in mason jars. The dinner menu? The best of the winter harvest. Make all of your favorite seasonal dishes one last time.

•Start a lunch club! Avoid feeling stranded for the last of winter and make a point to try new restaurants that have caught your attention. Get a group of co-workers, friends, or family and create a weekly lunch club to revive your palette and scenery.

•Treat yourself to a spa day! What better way to escape mentally than with a relaxing and rejuvenating massage, body wrap, and facial? While you’re there, get a mani and pedi with a new color that will remind you that Spring is right around the corner.

•There is no better way to escape the mid-winter slump than redecorating a room in your house (maybe the whole house!). Pick a room that feels over-whelming, unimaginative, or just neglected, and dress it up with a new coat of paint. It is amazing what a new color can do for your home, and your mood. Don’t stop there! Redecorate with new art, fixtures, and furniture; the possibilities are endless. (I offer a one-day home makeover service. The difference even amazes me!)

•Call me for a personal make over! Of course, I’m biased, but the positive effects of revamping your image lasts longer than any slump. Create or change your personal style and image just in time for spring to debut the new you!

•In general, trying new activities is a great way to break free of your everyday routine that has you feeling stagnant. Try a new class at the gym; Kick-boxing or a dance class will get you
feeling energized again. Hot yoga is also a great way to stay warm, while switching up your normal yoga routine. Take advantage of a nice day, and go to the park; a change of scenery is always nice!

•Start planning your spring break escape. While you have some downtime in the warmth of your own home, start thinking about where you want to venture to for some time away in the spring. No matter how close or far, imagining your vacation will provide a distraction- at least for a bit!

Hopefully these ideas will allow you to enjoy what is left of our winter, while staying energized and productive. On the bright side, spring break is right around the corner! Stay tuned for next week’s post on packing essentials for this year’s spring break vacations.
