Bringing Personality in Professional Dress

One of my most enjoyable type of client is the business professional.  Most of us spend a decent amount of time in the work place, and are used to, and comfortable with, dressing to the business status quo.  Day in and day out we mindlessly put on our designated, lackluster suits and skirts, not really acknowledging that what we wear expresses what makes us unique.   There are definite rules of the professional wardrobe, but that does not mean that we cannot add a little spice to our attire.

Here are some ways to make your drab into a little bit more fab!

Color-blocking

Color-blocking is one of my favorite spring trends.  Bring some serious color into your wardrobe by picking two solid colors and pairing them together.  For example that white suit jacket would look great with a deep blue skirt!

Accessorize

Accessories make all the difference in whatever outfit you choose to wear.  Some great ideas are pairing a darker colored suit with a brightly colored shoe.  Give yourself a more defined waistline and break up an outfit by adding a skinny belt.  Show off a great pair of shoes with a skirt.  It can even be as easy as adding bangles or a statement necklace.

Prints

Never under estimate the power of prints; it’s all about the details!  If you have a solid pants suit, throw on a floral patterned blouse underneath to give it a little spring flare.  Prints are also great for shoes!  However, steer clear from doing multiple pieces of the same or different prints.

Peplum

Who doesn’t love the peplum top? It is trendy and flattering on almost every figure!  For a business appropriate outfit, find a peplum shaped top with a higher neckline and sleeves.  Dress it up with a statement necklace and a pant with tapered-ankles.

High-wasted pants

Although these are more popular for the casual setting, finding a good pair of high-waisted pants can work in your favor in the work place.  High-waisted pants with a large flare, paired with wedges and a blazer will make a fun look for the office!
